With 1.25 hours to spare and 9/10 bars on the power showing I’m all good to go with a report on what happened for EDUPOV at the 18th National Vocational Education and Training Research Conference which was held at the University of Ballarat Campus.
I had the privelege of;
- meeting David Morgan, The Work Lab from North Hobart owner of “Skillsbook”
- meeting Regan Harding, DET NSW who was a presenting delegate as part of proceedings
- meeting and conferiing with Ruth Wallace, Senior Lecturer at Charles Darwin University
- meeting Rebecca Nash who just so happened to be at the AUPOV09 conference in Wollongong
I was taken with some of the rhetoric forthflowing from Professor Barbara Pocock in her keynote address titled ” Whats different in this recession ? Low paid workers in times of labour market stress “. Barbara’s humour made this a presentation to remember.
I avoided the getting-to-know the NCVER website sessions as a visit to the NCVER site will show a plethora of valuable resources and places where EDUPOV will seek inclusion within.
I attended the following workshops;
- Introduction to NCVER – Websites and Commisioned Research hosted by Francesca Beddle & Rose Anne Polvere
- Communications improved – with Eportfolios hosted by David Morgan – Worklab
- E-portfolios for skills recognition of Aboriginal Artworkers in central Australia hosted by Alicia Boyle, Desert Knowledge CRC
- Our Space : Deploying New Technologies to Engage certificate IV Multimedia Students hosted by Stefan Schutt, Victoria University
- Teaching Training and Readiness for Working in VET hosted by John Ward & Jane Court, Chisholm Institute of TAFE
- Let’s Talk About VET hosted by Sian Halliday-Wynes
- Belonging, Becoming and Being : The Journey of Apprentice Bakers hosted by the brilliant Selena Chan, Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology
- Elearning Champions Driving Change In Vet hosted by Brad Beach, central Gipppsland TAFE & Ann Davenport, DFEEST
Whilst in Ballarat I had the opportunity to ;
- better articulate our market reach strategies with a number of clients in collaboration with Leo and Geoff
- update the online shop products for EDUPOV
- acquit more of the AUPOV09 financials
- web conference with Daniel Dacey from Learning Table
- showcase the EDUPOV broadcaster / player with three potential clients
- negotiate contact with Alexandra Miller from NRI TAFE NSW
- teleconference with Meredith Collins about synchronous platforms for video delivery
- extrapolate issues and resolve product returns for three faulty cameras
- answer about 50 emails
- update the EDUPOV website
- Twitter some facts and figures
- Flickr our presence at NCVER No Frills 2009
- update the Ungarie reunion wiki
- negotiate new contractual conditions for our clients Family Planning, Coke Amatil and others
- update Saasu with invoices for the trip
I did not get a chance to attend dinner with the Delegates part from the first evening nor did I attend the Friday’s morning workshop session due to travel time constraints.
I have access now to a huge range of research contacts and also to literature which will help us prepare our paper for the upcoming ISTAS10 conference which I’m hoping we can attend, present at and showcase our products at.
All in all I feel having now a travelling wireless broadband connection and having been at NCVER that it’s been a very worthwhile investment of our time and resources.
I’m now sending this out by Twitter for comment.
